 I chose this class because I want to explore diverse literary traditions and understand how different cultural narratives shape the American experience. Arab American literature is a field I have not deeply explored before, but I recognize how important it is in broadening perspectives on identity, immigration, and cultural integration. Through this course, I hope to gain a better understanding of Arab American history, the struggles and triumphs of the community, and how Arab American literature serves as a bridge between cultures. Additionally, I want to be able to analyze literature that deals with themes of displacement, assimilation, and resistance. One of my primary goals in this course is to become familiar with key Arab American authors and their works. I want to understand how historical events, such as early 20th-century immigration waves, post-9/11 discrimination, and contemporary global conflicts, have influenced Arab American writing.
